Pros
- Instant results with new formula. One treatment and my teeth were whiter.
- HiSmile pods are a great way to dispense the the whitening formula into your mouth tray. No mess at all!
- 10 minute treatment is easy and with the peroxide-free whitening gel, I had no sensitivity issues.
Cons
- The formula does have a distinct taste to it and does take a little getting use but it's not something to really worry about.
- It can be a little hard to dispense all whitening formula from the pods so the trick is to have them upside down before use.

Most Australians who have either used a Teeth Whitening product or searched for one would have come across HiSmile.
HiSmile is an Australian company that has created a DIY Teeth Whitening Kit (amongst other things) that is peroxide free, safe and provides results.
Recently, the company has refreshed their branding and designed a new way to whiten your teeth as well as a new proven formula.
Pretty exciting if you ask me!
The HiSmile PAP+ LED Teeth Whitening Kit is a breakthrough product and I was offered the opportunity to test and review their products.
First up is the PAP+ Whitening Kit!
A fresh look for HiSmile and their Teeth Whitening Kit.
First Impressions
I’ve tested and reviewed many Teeth Whitening Kits over the past 2 years.
In my view, HiSmile is one of the most beautifully designed kits on the market.
This newly created Teeth Whitening Kit is pretty close to perfection.
The packaging is first class and the feel of the product is truly top-notch.
Everything in the kit is very easy to understand and use.
In terms of the HiSmiles peroxide-free whitening formula, it works.
I was very impressed with the shade change in my teeth colour, but more on that later!
Does HiSmile PAP+ Whiten Your Teeth?
Yes, it does!
I was surprised by how fast the results were seen.
After one application I saw a difference, with my tooth shade appearing lighter.

HiSmile reports that the PAP+ clinical trial was a “double-blinded study, conducted by a third party dentist. Each participant completed a single ten-minute teeth whitening treatment”.
100% of the applicants who participated in the clinical trial achieved whiter teeth, which HiSmile confirms.
Of those, “61.9% achieved 3+ shades whiter”, states HiSmile.
The good thing for people who have sensitive teeth, no one reported any sensitivity issues during the clinical trial.
And neither did I!
Dramatic improvement after using the HiSmile PAP+ Teeth Whitening Kit.
I’ll go into my testing and review process later in my post, but one thing was for sure, HiSmiles PAP+ Teeth Whitening Kit definitely works.
Packaging, Design and What’s Inside?
HiSmile’s kit was expressed shipped to me and when I got it, the contents were clearly protected and professionally packaged.
No issues of damage whilst in transit.
Opening the Teeth Whitening Kit, I was taken back by the stylish update that HiSmile had designed.
A much smarter and luxurious looking kit overall than the previous HiSmile Kit.
Inside you will find the following contents:
- 6 individual PAP+ whitening treatment pods
- LED light
- Superior mouthguard
- Instruction pamphlet
- PAP+ reference card
- HiSmile teeth whitening shade guide.
- A pouch to hold all material neatly inside.
I loved how everything, from the LED light and whitening formula pods to the instruction booklet had its place inside the kit.
Even though it is a DIY kit, HiSmile has been able to achieve a dental look and feel to their product.
The HiSmile Pods and contents are packaged beautifully.
HiSmile Instructions
In terms of using this Teeth Whitening Kit, HiSmile has made it simple.
First thing first, activate the LED light.
You must remove the plastic tab that stops the battery from going flat while it’s in transit.
Once removed you are good to go.
Assembling the LED and mouth tray is pretty easy, the first time is usually the most challenging but after that it’s easy.
A good recommendation is to brush your teeth before using any teeth whitening treatment, the same is true for HiSmile’s PAP+ Kit.
The standard 2 minutes of brushing is perfect!
HiSmiles instruction booklet and formula information are very easy to read and understand.
Next, you move onto the Teeth Whitening Pods.
Secured in the main internal packaging, each pod has its own location.
Simply twist the cap off and apply 50% of the gel to the top part of the tray and the rest to the bottom part.
The formula isn’t runny and isn’t messy.
Once the gel has been dispensed you can power on the LED light and insert the device into your mouth.
I moved it around a little before settling in for the 10 minute period.
10 minutes goes fast, especially when you are watching Netflix.
The LED device will automatically turn off at the 10-minute mark.
Completing the treatment only involves cleaning the mouth tray which must be removed from the LED device.
It is important to remember the LED light is not waterproof.
The LED light works efficiently and the mouth tray is comfortable.
Phthalimidoperoxycaproicacid (PAP)
The main and leading ingredient in the HiSmile Teeth Whitening Kit.
HiSmile confirms PAP+ is the active and clinically whitening ingredient that is “designed to effectively oxidise stains without damaging the tooth”.
The ever-faithful Wikipedia describes Phthalimidoperoxycaproicacid as “a synthetic organic peroxy acid derived from caproic acid and phthalimide.
It is used commonly as a bleaching activator that is used instead of Hydrogen Peroxide.
Hydroxyapatite (HAp)
Hydroxyapatite is something that bones and teeth naturally have.
HiSmile has created a “nano-synthetic version which replaces minerals back into damaged parts of the enamel”.
In essence, having this component should help “strengthen the layers of the tooth’s enamel”.
Plently of information but it’s not overload.
Potassium Citrate
People with sensitivity issues will love this ingredient.
Potassium Citrate is the desensitising agent which helps reduce pre-existing sensitivity.
HiSmile explains it “travels down into the tooth and through the soft layer of dentin to provide the nerves with lasting protection from pain and sensitivity”.
The brilliant thing about the HiSmile new PAP+ formula is that it doesn’t cause damage to the enamel.
HiSmile was able to work with a company called Intertek to document their finds on their PAP+ Teeth Whitening Kit formula.
Their tests revealed that the PAP+ gel had the same effect on a tooth’s enamel as deionised water has.
Impressive!
HiSmile Results
I used 3 pod treatments over a period of 3 consecutive days.
This resulted in giving me a distinct change in my tooth colour.
As I mentioned above, the first treatment was noticeable but the preceding 2 treatments gave me a clear whitening effect.

These photos were taken in my son’s room which is quite bright and has a good mirrored wardrobe.
This made it a little easier to take clear photos of my mouth.
They weren’t altered or changed in any way.
Price, Value and Product Range
You can purchase one of HiSmile’s PAP+ Teeth Whitening Kits for $149 Australian dollars.
With all the effort HiSmile has gone to with research and development, and not to forget the most important point, results, I believe it represents good value.
Because of the nature of the formula and its direct and instant results, you can make the kit last when needed.
I used 3 pods to get a whiter smile and aim to use the other gel pods down the track when I need a refresher.
Afterpay is available on their website which breaks the cost into 4 instalments so you can get the product in your hands quicker!
HiSmile currently costs $149.
HiSmiles product range is impressive and there is something for any adult.

Usage Timeline

Initial UsageCondition: Excellent
Loved the packaging and how the kit came.
Instructions were clear and it was very easy to understand.
Thought the use of the pods was a smart way to dispense the whitening gel.
Once the gel was on the mouth tray it held its form and wasn't runny or messy.
Didn't experience any spillage or wastage which is great!
The First 10-minute treatment was a breeze, though the taste of the gel is something to get used to.
The mouth tray was very easy to clean and have ready for tomorrows treatment.

Day 2 - Second TreatmentCondition: Excellent
Before starting the second treatment both my partner and I could see a difference. Teeth appear to be whiter.
The second treatment went as planned. Though trying to get the whole amount of gel out of the pods was a little hard.
Once the mouth tray was put into my mouth I moved it around so the gel could have a chance to connect to all teeth.
The taste was still 'different' and I still need to get used to it. It's not really something to worry about, probably a more personal view.

Day 3 - Third TreatmentCondition: Excellent
Found turning the pods upside down to aid in dispensing more gel onto the mouth tray, beneficial.
The taste has become somewhat familiar.
The formula really holds its structure on the mouth tray. This was evident once completely the treatment.
I can see a distinct difference from before and after using the HiSmile PAP+ treatment.
Overall
HiSmile has created something very special.
The PAP+ LED Teeth Whitening Kit has everything needed to obtain a whiter smile in a safe manner.
This peroxide-free formula offers customers a gentle yet effective whitening treatment.
